For a bit of savings on apparel, footwear and school supplies, Florida offers a tax-free shopping weekend in which eligible items are exempt from the usual six percent sales tax.
The tax-free weekend is August 4 to August 6. It’s perfect for back-to-school shopping, and it’s also valid on items bought for babies and adults.
Eligible merchandise includes
- select school supplies $15 or less per item. A few examples of tax-exempt items include lunch boxes, legal pads, pens, notebooks, erasers and protractors
- clothing, footwear and some accessories $60 or less per item. A few examples of tax-exempt apparel and accessories include leggings, backpacks, purses, socks, wallets and ties
- laptops, desktops, tablets, electronic book readers and qualifying accessories purchased for personal use purchased for $750 or less per item
